Madonna Visits Kindle

In April 2007 pop star, Madonna*, paid a visit to Kindle and decided to get involved! Madonna has joined the likes of other recognizable names in Hollywood and is doing her part to make a difference in Africa. Madonna has established Raising Malawi*, an organization focusing its efforts and resources on the children of Malawi. When the two organizations teamed up and shared their expectations it was a great fit.

The partnership was made through another local NGO in Malawi, NOVOC. Madonna, along with the paparazzi that followed her, came out for the afternoon. The visit focused on the, soon to be open, Katawa Clinic. The clinic will reach out to a community inhabiting estimates of 10,000 people and will provide general outpatient care, nutrition programs, AIDS/HIV programs and pediatric care. During the visit Madonna planted a tree in dedication of the project, which can be found at the site.

Since the visit, Raising Malawi Executive Director, Philippe van den Bossche has been out to revisit with his colleagues. Katawa Clinic is scheduled to open in late 2007. Donate Now

Volunteers From Abroad

The year 2007 has brought many visitors to Kindle. In April, two visitors from Australia came to spend three months with Kindle. Their focus was to work within the women's ministry and also to work within Community Development starting the Nachidze irrigatio project. In September two nurses from Germany arrived to to spend 6 weeks working and fulfilling their practical training for university level qualifications. Later that month a team of 12 from the state of Mountain Lake Church in Georgia, US spent nearly two weeks in a dual capacity. The team spent their mornings working on Kindle House, the new team and guest house. They focused on the fun stuff, like building a septic system. They worked beside Elishama Building Contractors to get Kindle one step closer to the hopeful goal of completion of Kindle House in 2007. To donate to the completion of this project email info@KindleOrphanOutreach.org. The team also spent the afternoons attending youth groups and working beside the Pastor and his staff. It was a great partnership!

October brought two very unique and specialized volunteers to Kindle. Alison Bishop brings her nursing background to work with her for the next 4 months in the rural areas. Kindle is hopeful to have her participating in the new Katawa Ckinic, once open. Until then she is working at various locations including the twice a week clinic and home based care program. Kate Newman is at Kindle for 2 months working in an administrative role. She is spending time out in the community gathering data and information from staff and families. The goal is to provide information and a true feeling of Kindle that can be used to help further Kindle's efforts in communication and fundraising locally, as well as abroad.

Kindle has been truly blessed by the sacrifice made by these people to spend their time and resources with us in Malawi. Thank you. Donate Now

Kindle Founder in Austrailia

Kindle Founder and Past Director, Andrew Barr, has made a move across the Indian Ocean. Andrew and his wife have been together in Malawi for 14 years. Their adventures have brought them a family of four children, a variety of pets, a home and, of course, Kindle Orphan Outreach. On November 7th a staff meeting was held and the final handover of responsibilty was made from Andrew Barr to Operations Manager, Ian Williams. "Ian will do a great job! He has tons of experience here in Malawi and has a great heart to see God work in the community" commented Andrew. Ian Williams first move to Malawi with his wife Jessica in 2001. They have been serving with Teen Missions up until the move to Kindle in late 2006. They now live in Nanjoka with their two children.

The decision to leave was of personal nature. Francis Barr is a native of Austarlia, in fact Andrew and her met while he was away at Bible School in the early 90s. Andrew will stay active in a role of Founder and Fundraiser. Look for his comments in upcoming newsletters. Andrew will be missed a great deal. He can not be replaced. But just as Andrew always taught his staff, "It was never me...always God and will continue to be." We are all excited to see what the next project God might have planned for the Barrs. Who knows...maybe "Kindle Austrailia." Donate Now
